Alcohol Ink Waves: create beautiful waves and ocean inspired pieces using the beautifully vibrant alcohol inks.
SUPPLIES PROVIDED: Everything you need I will have available to use during the workshop.
The only thing I do not provide is the final sealer. You will want to obtain a can of Kamar Varnish (purchased at Opus Art Supplies) if you choose to seal your project the next day. I will supply a hand out with instructions on how to do so.
-Age 18 and up
-10 spots available
-As per COVID restrictions, you must bring a mask. I will have your seating arrangement spaced out appropriately. You can find the COVID protocols for the venue on their website.
Together we are going to create three alcohol ink ocean-inspired pieces. You will walk away with one 5x7, one 8x10, and one 11x14 ocean-inspired piece ready to sign and frame!
BEGINNER FRIENDLY: First, we will quickly go over the essential basics of alcohol ink: supplies, what it is, how it works, and safety (we will be working closely with 99% isopropyl alcohol). (10 mins)
Then we will dive right into our pieces:
- First composition: Warm up piece creating a 5x7 ocean horizon using a tilting method (25 mins)
We will use a two color palette to create a calm ocean horizon using a tilting method on yupo paper. This is a very basic method that will familiarize yourself with how alcohol ink interacts, and will help you learn how the colors can work.
- Second composition: A rolling wave on 8x10 (40 mins)
We will use brushes to create a BIG ROLLER tidal wave! These are super fun to make and will certainly be the highlight of the class! I will also introduce METALLICS! Metallics are an advanced method, but fear not! They are striking when used sparingly and I will guide you through how to use them.
Third composition: FREE PLAY on 11x14 (50 mins)
This is the fun part where you get to choose your colors, choose your composition, and I will guide you to create a final masterpiece using the techniques we learned in the previous pieces.
Jaide Fox will encourage her students to follow their own intuition while painting. Students are welcome to follow Jaide's instruction exactly or use different colors or compositions. This class is meant to loosen up your work and enjoy the flow of alcohol ink and the magic it has to offer.
At the end, I will give you a handout on how to seal your alcohol ink projects the next day so they last and do not smudge.
You must provide me with two weeks notice of cancellation. Classes are non-refundable two calendar weeks before the class as it may be difficult for me to fill spots during this COVID time. Purchase of this class assumes you have read and accepted the cancellation policy.
